UHI Awards 2018 The Ann and Lorne Cole Award The Corelia Quintet Prize
Alex Turley composer
The Golden Gate Brass commissioned with the assistance of Ann and Lorne Cole
a piece Cloudscapes which was a series of short vignettes for brass quintet,
each of which foregrounds a different subset of the group. Players phase in
and out of time with each , creating ambient blurs of texture. The piece
evokes images of clouds collecting and dissipating in the sky.
Golden Gate Brass members are: Fletcher Cox, Michael Olsen, trumpet Adrian
Gabriels, horn Jackson Bankovic, trombone Jason Catchpowle, tuba.
The quintet have performed at ANAM, in Western Australia and at the
Melbourne Savage Club.
They enjoy sharing their love of music with a younger audience and those who
may not have previously had opportunities to hear an orchestra or chamber
The Ursula Hoff Institute wishes to congratulate the winners and extends its warmest regards to all finalists and participants in the competition.
